![]() Whether you live in India or are just vacationing there, a situation might arise--such as a family emergency or a bill that is due--that makes it crucial for you to send money to another country. In India, as in most countries, it takes more planning to get something out of the country than to move it around within the country. But there are options, and once you know how much money you're sending and how quickly you want it to get there, you can pick a method that works for you. |

1 Send a standard check in the mail if you have plenty of time to get your money from India to another country. Monitor the arrival of the check and cancel it if it does not arrive within a reasonable time. Do not send cash from country to country because you'll have no recourse if it never arrives. 2 Talk to your bank. If the bank operates both in India and the country you're sending money to, and the recipient has an account, you can safely send the money electronically from one account to another. You'll need to fill out some forms at the bank and have account information for yourself and the recipient. 3 Ask at the bank if they can send an international money order to the country where your money is going. While the bank can usually do so, some countries are not set up for this type of transaction. And even though you are in India, the money order should not be written in rupees, the Indian currency, but rather in the currency of the country where the money is going. 4 Consider using a service provider or agent, such as Western Union, to send money. This method is often preferred because the money arrives quickly. However, these agents usually charge you or the recipient a fee. You'll need to provide the money to send, as well as the name and contact information for the recipient. 5 Open a free account through PayPal.com. You and the recipient must both have PayPal accounts to use this option and there is a 3-percent service fee for this type of transaction. Once you create an account, key in your bank account information and transfer money to your PayPal account. Then, you can transfer the money to the recipient's PayPal account and they can transfer it into their bank account. This process can take several days, so it's not a good option if the money is needed urgently. Of course, the process will be quicker if you and the recipient already have PayPal accounts and PayPal already has your bank account information. 6 Use debit cards if you and the recipient both have them. Call the banks or companies that issued both cards and ask them to transfer the money from one account to the other. |
